Women's History Month 2022

RPX is pleased to celebrate Women’s History Month, first recognized as a national celebration in 1981 when the President proclaimed the week beginning March 7, 1982, as “Women’s History Week.” Throughout the next five years, Congress continued to pass joint resolutions designating a week in March as “Women’s History Week.” In 1987 after being petitioned by the National Women’s History Project, Congress officially designated the month of March 1987 as “Women’s History Month.” Since then, presidents have issued a series of annual proclamations designating the month of March as “Women’s History Month.” These declarations celebrate the contributions women have made to the United States and recognize the specific achievements women have made over the course of American history in a variety of fields.

This year’s Women’s History Month theme, “Women Providing Healing, Promoting Hope,” is a recognition of the many ways that women of all cultures have provided both healing and hope throughout history. It is also a tribute to the thousands of caregivers and frontline workers during this ongoing pandemic.

International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. IWD has occurred for well over a century with the first gathering held in 1911. The United Nations first recognized International Women’s Day, on March 8, in 1975.The day marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

The theme for IWD 2022 is #BreakTheBias. Whether deliberate or unconscious, bias makes it difficult for women to move ahead. Knowing that bias exists isn’t enough. Action is needed to level the playing field.
